Things To Consider Before Buying Jet Ski Insurance

Jet Ski insurance

If you own or operate a Jet Ski, Jet Ski insurance can cover you for loss, damage, theft or injury risks to your craft and its occupants, in addition to any costs you may incur to other people or property through accidental damage.

Most insurers will offer Jet Ski insurance that includes basic cover for damage or loss, along with a range of additional options.  Insure My Jet Ski can also help you cover your Jet Ski for less common insurance risks and activities.

Jet Skis can be expensive assets, in the event you accidentally damage another Jet Ski or marine infrastructure you could face significant financial costs.  For most Jet Ski owners, Jet Ski insurance is a necessity.

Jet Ski insurance policies will specify either an agreed value or a market value as the total sum insured for the Jet Ski and equipment you choose to insure.

What am I covered for?

Jet Ski insurance includes a component for physical damage, which covers your Jet Ski, motor and associated equipment (such as a trailer) against a range of risks which include theft, fire, vandalism, accident and storm damage.

Policies can include an additional option to take out extra medical coverage in case of injury or accident, while others will include medical expenses within the policy.

If you, or a passenger on your Jet Ski, accidentally injure another person or property, liability coverage will pay associated financial costs.  Policies have different limits to liability coverage; Insure My Jet Ski can help you understand exactly how much you are insured for before you take out a policy.

Additional coverage

When you are looking at Jet Ski insurance, make sure that everything you require is covered by the policy.  Where exclusions exist, check if you can take out additional cover if you need to.

For example, you may want to make sure that your trailer is covered. Are you are covered for towing, in the event your Jet Ski or trailer has an issue?

You should check whether personal effects on your Jet Ski are covered, such as fishing equipment, radar and other communications gear, mobile phones and cameras. Does the policy include coverage for injuries caused to your Jet Ski or your passengers by another uninsured Jet Skier?

If you want to race your Jet Ski, you need to make sure that the insurance that you take out covers you for this.  Most policies do not include this cover and needs to be negotiated separately.  Jet Ski Insure can discuss the options so that you are covered appropriately.

If you take part in a Jet Skiing competition, it is possible that event organisers have a separate insurance arrangement.  You need to be aware of what cover you need to take out yourself, and what cover might be included in the entry fee that you pay to take part in the competition.

Optional Covers to Consider

  • Lay-up – You can reduce your premiums by opting to not use your Jet Ski during specified periods.
  • Contents – Cover for contents contained in your Jet Ski’s lockable cabin
